The journey begins - lent 2024

I have been absent for some time now.  As today marks the beginning of Lent, I have decided that my Lenten journey will include getting back into the discipline of writing each day.

It's not that I haven't been writing.  I always seem to be writing "something," but I have not been "intentional."

Ash Wednesday is that day when we often determine a focus for the Lenten journey.  While it is often a personal journey of inward significance, in my case, my inward journey will have outward implications as my words once again find their way to my blog.

Ash Wednesday is a day that we hear the words, "From ashes you were created, and ashes you shall return."  Having survived some significant health issues over the past year, these words are a reminder that I have made friends with death, and that I know the significance of where I have come from, and where I shall return.

Our mind and body are reminded with the imposition of ashes that they are a vessel.  A vessel that has a beginning and ending, that possesses the breath of God, which is eternal.   Lent is a time in which we provide care for our soul.  Perhaps a time in which we allow for rest, meditation, or in my case, words of reflection.

There is no "right or wrong," way to enter this season.

The fact that Ash Wednesday coincides with Valentine's Day this year, for me, reminds me that God loves each of us.  That the reminder that we are dust proves the significance we have in God's love.  Being the only part of creation that carries God's breath, speaks to the significance each of us have in that love.  

Today begins a new journey.  A new season.  May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
